Leading Change - How OT Entrepreneurs Are Championing Neurodiversity at Work
I’m really excited to share that I’ve been featured in the latest issue of OTnews with an article titled “Leading Change: How OT Entrepreneurs Are Championing Neurodiversity at Work.”
This piece means a lot to me, not just because it’s my first time being published in OTnews in long form, but because it shines a light on something I care deeply about: creating workplaces where neurodivergent people don’t just survive, but thrive.
In the article, I explore how Occupational therapists, especially those of us working independently or as entrepreneurs, are in a unique position to lead the way when it comes to meaningful neurodiversity inclusion. From designing sensory-friendly spaces to supporting executive functioning and coaching employers, we’re doing work that goes far beyond what people typically imagine when they think of Occupational therapy.
Here’s a look at what I cover:
- The power of working outside the traditional OT system to meet people where they’re at.
- How OT skills like activity analysis, sensory profiling, and person-environment fit can directly shape inclusive practices at work.
- Real-world examples of how small, neurodiversity-affirming changes can have a big impact on wellbeing, productivity and retention.
One of my favourite parts about writing this article was being able to reflect on how the Occupational Therapy community is adapting and evolving, not waiting for permission to lead change, but stepping into new spaces with confidence and compassion.
You can read the article in the July issue of OTnews. If you’re a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, you should be able to access it through your account. Here is a copy.
If you’ve read it already, thank you! I’d love to hear what resonated with you, especially if you're also passionate about neurodiversity in the workplace or exploring a more flexible, values-driven OT career.
And if you’re an employer, neurodivergent professional, or just curious about how I can support inclusive work culture, feel free to get in touch.
